To start, measure the length and width of your mulch bed. If you're working with a circular bed, just measure the radius.

Next, determine your desired mulch depth. Three to four inches of mulch is recommended to inhibit weed growth and maximize water retention.

Finally, take your results to the store! If you are buying from a bulk mulch yard, you'll want to give them the total cubic yards you need. If you're buying bags, you can feel confident you'll have enough mulch to finish the job.
